Familiarity.

We all go back to familiar places because some habits creep into us, clinging into our very nature, as if we are molded by them. You reminisce the familiar bench, go back to that park where you had your first date, listen to the same song that crawls into your consciousness. We all experience that longing to remember, to the point of nostalgia or nausea.

Thoughts tell us to recall the best and the worst parts of our lives. Sometimes, even when we try to abscond from the harrowing memories of the past, a certain slight of remembrance brings us back to the same thought. We wallow or we attempt to escape, but in both instances, we try to recall.

Memories shape us. Because in reminding us of things, we go back to what we have loved, loathed, created, and foregone. We try our very best to move forward, but certain things are forever etched onto us. Like love and pain and longing and letting go, memories can be the best and worst of what we have.
