Cleansing.

It comes to a realization when the old contours of one’s life will snap back into place, akin to the almost-comforting elasticity of a rubber band after being stretched for too long. With this realization, the feeling of being back on the same spot could be disconcerting. Even when one carefully disassociates himself from the cobwebs of nostalgia, the ghost of one’s former self still haunts him. It’s like one’s past self is mirrored by the present self as he welcomes the future self. It could be as complex as it sounds.

Sometimes, it becomes necessary to organize the clutter of things and memories as a means to cleanse oneself. The ordeal seems limiting, almost claustrophobic especially when one attempts to remove the old familiar spaces to give birth to new ones, or simply to lessen the once-crowded gaps.

The problem is, one’s consciousness becomes aware of the emptiness. The once-crowded gaps are nothing but pure hollowness, as if mocking the emptiness within. But like a cup which needs to be empty to be again full, there is also a feeling of being purified by the emptiness within. With it comes the impression of starting anew.

In snapping back to its previous state, some things come full circle.

  2. More often, cleansing requires the purging of excesses. If you're not an integral part, you shall be cleansed away.
